Podcasts: What I’m listening to right now

I was introduced to podcasts by a family member and for the last couple of years this has been my medium of choice for recreational entertainment.

Whether it be digesting new ideas and philosophies, listening in on thought-provoking conversations, or being exposed to theories that are radically different to my own, I have become increasingly reliant on podcasts to help me view the world through a wider lens.

Here are a few pods I am currently listening to:

1. Hidden Brain

Hosted by the wonderful Shankar Vedantam, Hidden Brain uses a blend of storytelling and science to uncover the unconscious patterns in our behaviors. Why do we get envious of others? Do the languages we speak shape our thoughts? How can the labels we ascribe to others affect their personalities…as well as their potential? These are just some of the questions that are explored in this thought-provoking series.

2. Unregistered with Thaddeus Russell

Aside from having one of the best names of all post-modernist thinkers, Thaddeus Russell also hosts one of the more intriguing podcasts out there. He is an academic who in his own words, “hates everything about academia.” This makes the conversations with his guests a fascinating listen. Every week, Thaddeus and co. fiercely challenge the most sacred ideas and traditions in mainstream society. Whether you agree or disagree with his opinions, you will certainly think differently about the preconceived ideas that govern your daily interactions.

3. The Joe Rogan Experience

The Granddaddy of all podcasts. Joe Rogan pioneered long-form conversations as a medium and introduced the general public to Dark Web intellectuals such as Jordan Petersen, Bret Weinstein, Sam Harris, and the aforementioned Thaddeus Russell. Topics on the podcast can range from MMA, Philosophy, Politics, Health & Fitness, to the experience of psychedelics on the human experience. Joe blends an insatiable curiosity with a desire for self-improvement which brings a level of authenticity that is wonderfully refreshing.
