26 - Glen Tyler: 12 Years - the global countdown
January 28th 2019
Gone are the days when environmental activists were referred to as tree-huggers. Scientists estimate that as a global population, we have a mere 12 years left for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1,5ºC. Change on an individual level is imperative, but a community that impacts change is a powerful force. Glen Tyler is an environmental activist working for 350.org. 350.org empowers and supports people to take action against climate change. He believes that we need to act communally in order to attack the systemic problems, not just reactively treat the symptoms, which he aptly likens to putting a Band-Aid on an amputation.
“Change on a personal level is never going to be enough to make the types of changes we need to make… Don’t just rely on NGO’s and other stalwart activists to clean up the planet. Exercise your citizen muscle. Hold leaders accountable. Fire your president if need be. Invest in your future. Do the hard graft.”
